Description of Work
Senior level engineer in the Structures Management Unit Engineering Development Squad. Develops, reviews, and implements policies and procedures for design and construction of highway structures. Formulate calculations for coding in engineering applications, verify design software to ensure computations are performed as intended. Collaborates with and oversees IT staff in developing in-house analysis software. Write and update in-house load rating software manuals. Develop and provide training and technical assistance to engineers involved in the design of highway structures. Develop and write structure design policies and procedures. Update the Structure Design Manuals. Develop and review special provisions for various structure-related items. Develop detailed sketches for engineers and technicians to use in Manual figures and Standard Drawings. Review work of engineers and technicians when tasks are completed. Advise Project Engineer and/or Unit Head with structural analyses and prepare reports for internal and external meetings. Provide critical reviews of proposed changes to AASHTO specifications and interims to ensure NCDOT concurrence. Provide technical advisory support to structure-related research committees and review research reports. Communicate with States, DOT officials, product manufacturers, fabricators, and producers.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade: NC20 Salary Range - $67,852.00 - $118,741.00

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
