Job Summary

Full pay range for this position is $98,858 - $148,288.

Resident Construction Engineer (Engineer III) is a senior-level engineering position responsible for overseeing complex municipal infrastructure projects. This role provides technical expertise, project management, and leadership skills. An Engineer III will supervise a team of engineers, technicians, and consultants, serve as a primary point of contact for project stakeholders, and coordinate with other city departments, contractors, consultants, and the public to ensure successful project delivery.

The position that is vacant is for a Resident Construction Engineer that is responsible for overseeing and managing construction projects for the City’s civil infrastructure, including roads, sewers, bridges, and other infrastructure improvements. The Resident Construction Engineer ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations. The role involves a combination of technical oversight, field supervision, communication, and coordination with contractors, subcontractors, consultants, the public, and other stakeholders.

Job Description

Engineer III


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in engineering or architecture, with a focus on municipal infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, utilities, sanitary sewer, stormwater management and other public improvements
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Iowa, or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months
  • Iowa DOT certifications (e.g., materials inspection, quality assurance) are preferred
