Job description:

Job Purpose

Creating and analyzing structural systems for buildings and other infrastructure to ensure they are safe, stable, and efficient. Designing structural elements, evaluating materials and loads, and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations. Collaborate with architects and other engineers to integrate structural solutions into overall project plans.

Key Accountability Areas

Design and Analysis

  • Develop and analyze structural designs for buildings, and other infrastructure using engineering principles and software.
  • Perform detailed calculations to ensure structures can withstand loads and environmental factors, including wind, earthquakes, and snow.
  • Choose appropriate materials based on structural requirements, cost, and durability.

Compliance and Documentation

  • Ensure all designs meet local, national, and international building codes and standards.
  • Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and reports for construction and regulatory approval.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with architects, civil engineers, and contractors to integrate structural designs with other aspects of the project.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, and communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.

Site and Construction Management

  • Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress, verify compliance with design specifications, and address any issues that arise.
  • Identify and resolve design issues or construction challenges, proposing practical solutions.

Professional Development and Innovation

  • Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, and technologies to improve design practices and enhance structural performance.
