If successful, you'll play a key role in assisting in engineering analyses related to flood control, floodplain management, watershed restoration, and flood risk reduction. Responsibilities include conducting rigorous fieldwork, numerical hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and floodplain management. This position will support the State Plan of Flood Control with analysis and design required to meet federal compliance criteria. This position will support the State Water Project, Future Water Supply program with hydrologic monitoring and analysis.

Department of Water Resources (DWR) was established in 1956 by the California State Legislature. We manage California’s water resources, systems, and infrastructure, including the State Water Project, in a responsible sustainable way.

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid California driver's license to drive a personal, rental, or State vehicle to meetings, conferences, trainings, or project sites. The incumbent must be able to travel on short notice and stay overnight, for several consecutive days, at field locations.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Experience in Civil Engineering-related work
  • Experience in land surveying, field measurements, and instruments
  • Experience in water-related software and analysis
  • Experience in CAD, office software, and numeric modeling software
  • Experience in formal report writing and public speaking/group presentations
  • Knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics principles
