Position: Engineering Lab Technical Lead
Location: Edison NJ
Reports to: Manager – Engineering Lab
Scope:
Working in an Engineering R&D laboratory with the responsibility of providing leadership and technical direction to a team of technicians/model makers. Experience and working knowledge of Victaulic products, industrial/lab experience is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES to include but not limited to:

Responsible for leading technical technician team, ensuring work orders are being processed timely, supporting company priorities, identifying and resolving problems including resource capacity limitations, and providing technical advice and development to team members.
- Responsible for working with your technical staff to perform work orders and promote and drive team development (in teaching/training and learning) by aiding in seeking internal or external training opportunities. Use employee performance appraisals as a professional development tool to provide goals, direction, and guidance for group members.

Encourage your team’s communication with engineering staff and other departments to keep them advised of developments with their requested support.
- Encourage continuous improvement developments in the lab in accordance with Lean & Safety initiatives.

Monitor the quality of the team’s work, overseeing team’s adherence to established lab methods and procedures.
- Communicate resource constraints to lab management as necessary, if unable to resolve timely.

Be able to perform all tasks of team members following established procedures for doing such work, as required. Tasks include, but not limited to:
-
Inspection of samples, castings, gaskets or rubber components for defects and compliance with Engineering Specifications and Drawings.

Assemble products for hydrostatic, flex, bending moment test, low temperature testing, and heat aging to comply with Engineering specifications.

Prepare, assemble and test new products for UL & FM tests to comply with their respective specifications.

Set up and operate flow test, cycle test, torque test, and hardness test to comply with engineering specifications.
- Set up and operate all Victaulic grooving and cleaning tools (clean and maintain, as needed).
- Set up and operate pipe threading machine.

Operate cut-off saw, drill press, belt sander, post grinder, as necessary, to prepare pipe for assembly.

Use creativity and self-direction to setup, machine and fabricate high-quality components and prototypes
- Maintain a professional, organized, clean work area in the lab environment in accordance with Lean initiatives.

Log and estimate all hours using Liquid Planner (LP) and use LP as a primary communication tool.

Set up displays and perform demonstrations for Sales Department and customers.

Follow all company safety requirements and procedures and participate in testing safety reviews.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Specific policies and procedures have been established by the Engineering Department to provide for the security and accessibility of electronic data and confidential information. It is the responsibility of the employee, in the daily course of doing business, to follow said policies as they relate to document management (see EOG-26). The extent to which departmental research and development information is stored electronically has vastly increased and will continue to do so. The new Federal rules pertaining to electronic discovery stipulate that substantive email communication constituted "records" under the Federal Records Act. It is therefore the responsibility of each departmental employee to understand their role in communicating via e-mails and that all e-mails must be written/responded to in a professional manner, as outlined in EOG-26.

Ability to effectively provide hands-on job training to technical staff

In-depth knowledge and familiarity with Victaulic products.

Associate and/or technical degree preferred
-
Minimum five (5) years industrial or lab experience.

Proficient in blueprint reading, shop math and precision instrument operation.

Ability to maintain records and logs; utilizing software to prepare charts and graphs.

Capable of taking verbal and written instructions.
-
Capable of performing all Laboratory functions.
