Description:
Position Overview:
The Engineering Manager leads, coordinates, and participates in the research and development of fitness products. Leads a team of mechanical designers, engineers, and project engineers to follow the new product development, key technology, and key component innovation processes. Works alongside product marketing, industrial design, design quality assurance, Asia and North America based factory manufacturing groups to take products from idea through to production. Maintains close surveillance of product development to ensure designs and test results match the technological specifications and end use requirements. Evaluates feasibility of design, manufacturing, profitability, competitiveness, marketing potential, etc. and makes recommendations.
Responsibilities:
Personnel:
- Assists VP of R&D in attracting and hiring top engineering talent
- Provides work direction to lower level engineers, trains and mentors staff in product development processes
- Coaches engineers to achieve 100% of their KPI’s
Key Technology and New Product Development:
- Product Specification review and communication with various marketing and factory staff to set development plan
- Assist PM's & engineering staff in working through any roadblocks to delivery
- Monitors resource use by participating in project sign offs at critical stage-gates
- Monitors NPD KPI of on-time, cost achievement, and quality
Project Engineering:
- Lead team on multiple projects through Key Technology and New Product Development processes
- Follow all phasegate deliverables and ensure completion to company standards
- Daily interaction with global Product Marketing and Asia-based factory engineering, manufacturing, and quality
- Execution of design to specification, manage team to meet schedule and cost requirements
Production support:
- Review quality and inspection data, perform product sample reviews and make design decisions, support value-add / value-engineer opportunities for cost and manufacturing efficiency
- Train Asia-based engineering and factory quality teams on design and functional requirements
Marginal Job Functions:

Requirements:
Education:
- 4-year degree in relevant Engineering field or equivalent engineering experience
- MBA and/or advanced degree in Engineering a plus
Experience:
- 5 years Project Engineering or Project Management experience
- 5 years design engineering experience with plastics, linkages, mechanisms, machinery (consumer goods a plus)
- Demonstrated leadership abilities through past record of success
- Strong knowledge of 3D CAD software and FEA tools
- Ability to read and understand patents
Other Requirements:
- Ability and willingness to travel both internationally and domestically, communicate with overseas teams during non-business hours
- Ability to work well with numerous diverse groups and individuals
- Ability to lead and inspire a team of engineers
