Engineering Manager

We are looking for a collaborative, technically strong, and safety-minded Engineering Manager to lead and grow a cross-functional tech engineering team focused on reliable, scalable, and maintainable software and systems that support our operations. The successful candidate will partner with product, operations, reliability, and safety stakeholders to translate business needs into engineering plans, deliverables, and operational practices. This role requires hands-on technical judgment, proven people leadership, and a pragmatic approach to prioritization, incident response, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities - Technical Engineering Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software and systems engineers, fostering a culture of psychological safety, high quality, and continuous learning.

  • Own delivery for multiple concurrent projects and initiatives: set scope and priorities, create and manage roadmaps, track milestones, and remove impediments to meet business and operational objectives.

  • Drive system design and architecture discussions with engineers and stakeholders to ensure solutions are secure, observable, fault tolerant, and maintainable.

  • Establish and enforce engineering best practices including code review, testing strategy, CI/CD pipelines, release management, and documentation standards.

  • Partner with operations, reliability, and HS&E teams to define operational requirements, incident response procedures, runbooks, and postmortem practices that improve uptime and safety.

  • Lead technical investigations and root cause analyses for production incidents; coordinate corrective and preventive actions and track remediation progress.

  • Manage vendor and contractor relationships, evaluate third-party tools and services, and ensure engineering deliverables meet performance, security, and compliance expectations.

  • Contribute to hiring, performance reviews, career development plans, and succession planning to build a resilient and diverse engineering organization.

  • Collaborate with product managers and cross-functional partners to define requirements, estimate effort, and balance technical debt with new feature delivery.

  • Promote metrics-driven decision making by defining key performance indicators, monitoring system health, and presenting progress to leadership.

Required Qualifications - Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent practical experience considered.

  • 5+ years of hands-on software or systems engineering experience and 2+ years in an engineering leadership or people-management role.

  • Proven ability to lead teams that design, build, and operate distributed systems or cloud-native applications with a focus on reliability and security.

  • Practical experience with modern development workflows and tools: version control, CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code, monitoring, and logging.

  • Demonstrated track record of managing incident response, conducting postmortems, and implementing durable fixes that reduce recurrence and impact.

  • Strong communication skills: able to produce clear technical documentation, present tradeoffs to stakeholders, and influence cross-functional teams.

  • Committed to safety, security, and regulatory compliance when applicable to operational systems and data handling.

Preferred Qualifications - Domain & Tools

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), container orchestration (Kubernetes), and observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or equivalents).

  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation), service mesh, or serverless architectures.

  • Background in operational technology, industrial control systems, or integration of IT/OT environments is a plus.

  • Experience implementing advanced testing strategies, load and chaos testing, and model-based monitoring for proactive reliability improvements.

  • Advanced degree (MS) or professional certifications in relevant areas (e.g., cloud certifications, security credentials) is advantageous.

Work Environment & Compensation
  • Full-time role within a collaborative, cross-functional engineering and operations organization; onsite or hybrid presence expected depending on project and facility needs.

  • Competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience, including health coverage, retirement plan options, paid time off, and professional development support.

  • Opportunities for training, certifications, and career progression in an inclusive, safety-first organization committed to operational excellence and sustainability.

  • We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and foster a respectful work environment that supports work-life balance and employee well-being.
