ECD plays a critical role as it adds value to Bain's case teams globally by supporting them with analytics and research solutioning across all industries, specific domains for corporate cases, client development, private equity diligence or Bain intellectual property. The BCN comprises of Consulting Services, Knowledge Services and Shared Services.

Who you will work with

BCN Private Equity Group CoE at Bain & Company provides specialized support to global teams across the private equity value chain, enabling clients to make key investment decisions. Our expertise lies in addressing critical diligence questions through a range of products such as survey analytics, digital diagnostic, workforce analytics and disruption assessment. Our teams work in a fast-paced environment delivering consistent and impactful results at scale. In the last decade, we have witnessed an exponential growth, reaching >250 members today from ~10 members in 2013. We operate from 3 locations – 2 in India and 1 in Poland, and operate across all 3 regions (EMEA, Americas and APAC). BCN PEG provides an opportunity to solve challenging business problems in a dynamic set-up working closely with global Bain teams, acting as a thought-partner with daily deliverables.

What you’ll do

  • As an Engineering Manager in BCN PEG Alpha, you will be an engineering leader and hands-on architect, owning multiple tools/products and leading a team of developers. You will combine technical leadership, people management and hands-on development to build and scale internal tools and platforms used by global case teams.
    • Own end-to-end design and architecture for a portfolio of internal tools and platforms
    • Make key decisions on technology stack, frameworks and infrastructure, balancing speed, scalability, security and cost.
    • Design and implement critical components yourself, particularly for complex features, integrations and performance-sensitive workflows
    • Translate business and case-team needs into technical solutions, delivery roadmaps and implementation plans.
    • Define and enforce engineering standards (code quality, testing, observability, security, performance).
    • Proactively manage risks, dependencies and trade-offs across tools and communicate them clearly to stakeholders.
    • Shape AI/LLM-based capabilities (e.g., RAG, semantic search, copilots) in PEG tools in line with Bain’s security and responsible AI standards.
    • Manage and coach engineers, fostering a high-performance, inclusive culture and driving reuse of components and best practices.
    • Support hiring, onboarding and capability building for BCN PEG Alpha.


About you

  • Strong full-stack engineering experience, including:
    • Server-side technologies such as FastAPI, Django, Flask, Node.js or similar.
    • Client-side frameworks such as React, Angular or Vue.js, plus solid HTML/CSS fundamentals.
  • Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices, with strong understanding of API design best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.) and containerization/orchestration such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with DevOps and CI/CD (e.g. GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or similar), including automated testing and deployment pipelines.
  • Solid computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, performance considerations, and automated testing.
  • Working knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases, data modeling, schema design and performance optimization.
  • Strong code review and technical mentorship skills; proven ability to uplevel less-experienced engineers.
  • Exposure to or interest in implementing AI/LLM-based systems (e.g., RAG, semantic search, copilots)
  • Demonstrated experience defining and improving engineering processes (agile practices, estimation, release management).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • High degree of ownership, curiosity, and pragmatism – comfortable balancing engineering excellence with delivery timelines in a consulting environment.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field.

Work experience

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant work on web / cloud applications.
  • 2+ years of experience in a Tech Lead or Manager-like role, leading other engineers (formally or informally) across design, implementation and delivery.
