Engineering Technician III

The Opportunity

NTS is looking for an Engineering Technician III. This role will play a pivotal role in the design, integration, and sustainment of Mobile Video Surveillance (MVS) systems deployed in high-threat environments. Engineering Technician III is a subject matter expert who engages in all aspects of the Protective Technology Branch and provides expert guidance on technical issues and solutions.


Key Responsibilities (Principal Duties and Accountabilities *Essential Functions)

  • Supports U.S. Department of State requirements in multiple overseas theaters in potentially high-threat environments and may be required to deploy TDY to these locations in support of several engineering efforts. During overseas deployments, the Engineer may be required to rotate between theaters and to multiple locations within each theater.
  • Develop complete integration solutions and the associated bill of materials for each platform to provide a finished product to be properly fielded.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting each platform and support the system as well as other associated equipment and provide solutions when required.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans as well as provide on-site U.S. Department of State oversight during verification testing in accordance with configuration management protocols.
  • Demonstrate and apply a broad knowledge of specialization through successful completion of moderately complex assignments.
  • Apply complex knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in areas of specialization.
  • Create and maintain as-built system specifications and other systems drawings
  • Interprets and implements security baseline configurations for all system components in support of the security accreditation process
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, and develops and implements solutions
  • Identifies system integrity issues and solutions for the full system life cycle
  • Supports operational and maintenance phase for as-built systems
  • Participates in special projects as required
  • Must have an active Top Secret clearance
  • Must be eligible for and able to obtain and maintain required Security Clearance/access approvals.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or advanced degree in a related discipline required

Required Skills, Experience & Abilities

  • 5-7 years of experience in systems engineering including network analysis, design, and installation
  • 3-5 years of experience with CentOS/Red Hat operating system software and virtualization software (i.e. VMware)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to effectively provide technical training to customers
  • Strong problem solving, analytic, and communication skills
  • Capable of lifting and moving information technology equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work well under pressure and time constraints, in a small team environment
  • Self-starter with ability to accomplish tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as job duties demand
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows operating systems and office automation software (e.g., Microsoft Office, SharePoint)

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in austere field conditions.
  • Clear vision and hearing required for meetings, presentations, and communication.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time, which may include extended periods of standing, walking, or navigating airports and government facilities.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as job duties demand
  • May be required to travel OCONUS to conduct installation, training or maintenance at diplomatic facilities. OCONUS travel may include critical threat locations around the world with austere living conditions.
  • Domestic travel may be required for training and program coordination.
  • Up to 50% travel
  • Regular travel to customer sites, government facilities, and industry events.
  • Work may occasionally be performed in secure government facilities, requiring adherence to security protocols.

  • Onsite position in Northern, VA that may work at locations in Gainesville, VA, Sterling, VA and other DoS sites.
