The Literacy Council of Norristown provides instruction in adult basic education, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), and high school equivalency credential preparation (GED). LCN currently has an opening for an adult English Language teacher in our daytime (Monday & Wednesday) classes for our high beginner and intermediate students. Classes have already begun for our 2025 Fall Semester. We are looking for good natured, kind hearted, flexible teachers who can:

• Provide English Instruction to adult students in both online and in person classroom settings
• Develop and implement instructional lessons based on student proficiency levels using content standards which enthuse and inspire students and promote enjoyment of learning
• Effectively differentiate instruction to meet all student learning styles
• Using LCN curriculum and guidelines, select and sequence appropriate materials, resources, and approaches according to the course/content area and audience of learners
• Provide on-going feedback to students
• Analyze student progress to identify areas for improvement
• Utilize learning spaces and tools effectively (i.e., notice boards, displays)
• Administers academic and language assessments to evaluate student progress in meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
• Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress
• Attend teacher and program meetings and attend professional development sessions

Work Hours, Compensation, and Benefits

• Part-time, 6 hours per week, morning (9:30 - 12 pm) hours, plus planning time (one hour weekly). Instruction is in person.
• Hourly wage of $23/hour
• Benefits are not currently offered for this position

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
• Experience working with limited English proficient students
• Candidates who are bilingual and/or have lived experience as language learners will be given preference
• Experience with language instruction, TEFL, CELTA, or teaching certificate preferred
