The English Teacher for the Junior Section is responsible for teaching English language skills—reading, writing, listening, and speaking—to young learners in a nurturing, engaging, and age-appropriate manner. The teacher fosters a love for reading, builds foundational grammar and communication skills, and supports students’ overall language development.
Key Responsibilities: Teaching & Instruction
- Plan and deliver interactive English lessons tailored to the needs of students in the junior section (typically ages 5–10).
- Introduce and reinforce phonics, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and sentence construction.
- Foster reading fluency and comprehension using storybooks, guided reading sessions, and class discussions.
- Develop students’ writing skills, including handwriting, creative writing, and basic composition.
- Promote oral communication and listening comprehension through storytelling, role-play, and group activities.
- Use a variety of teaching aids such as multimedia resources, flashcards, and games to make lessons engaging.
Curriculum & Assessment
- Follow the school’s curriculum framework and integrate innovative, child-centered teaching strategies.
- Prepare lesson plans, assignments, and classroom activities to support learning objectives.
- Regularly assess student progress through quizzes, reading assessments, and projects.
- Provide timely feedback and maintain accurate records of students’ performance.
Classroom Management
- Create a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and participation.
- Establish routines that promote discipline, respect, and active learning.
- Support students with varying abilities, offering differentiated instruction where needed.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with colleagues to align English teaching practices across grade levels.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and areas for support.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and school events.
Student Enrichment
- Foster a love for reading and literature through reading clubs, storytelling sessions, and book fairs.
- Encourage creativity and critical thinking through activities like poetry recitals, essay writing, and drama.
- Integrate English skills into other subjects to promote cross-curricular learning.
