English Language Arts Teacher

Job Title: Summer School ELA Teacher (Grades 6–9)
Position Type: Temporary (5 weeks)
Dates: July 6 – August 7
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
Location: Caught Up Summer Camp (Location TBD)

Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate and engaging ELA Teacher to join our summer camp program serving students in grades 6 through 9. This role focuses on strengthening students’ reading, writing, comprehension, and communication skills through interactive instruction using the Lavinia RISE curriculum. The ideal candidate will help students build confidence academically while creating a positive and supportive classroom environment that encourages growth and creativity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver daily ELA instruction to students in grades 6–9 using the Lavinia RISE curriculum.
  • Teach reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, grammar, and critical thinking skills through engaging lessons and activities.
  • Create a positive classroom culture that promotes participation, confidence, collaboration, and respect.
  • Implement interactive learning strategies, group discussions, and literacy-based activities to keep students engaged.
  • Attend and participate in daily 15-minute briefing meetings with the program team to align goals and provide updates.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback, encouragement, and individualized support as needed.
  • Collaborate with camp staff and leadership to ensure a safe, productive, and fun learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and academic progress.

Qualifications

  • No formal teacher certification required.
  • Experience working with students in grades 6–9 in teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or youth development settings preferred.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn the Lavinia RISE curriculum.
  • Strong communication, classroom management, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to create engaging, student-centered learning experiences.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to helping students succeed academically and personally.

Additional Information

  • This is a 5-week summer position running from July 6 through August 7.
  • Work hours are Monday–Friday from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.
  • Participation in daily 15-minute team briefings is required.
  • Position is part of a vibrant summer camp experience that combines academics, mentoring, life skills, and enrichment activities.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $35.00 per hour
