Introducing intermediate-level students to the scientific study of language. Moving beyond standard grammar and literature, guiding students through the core branches of linguistics including phonetics, morphology, syntax, and sociolinguistics. Bridging the gap between heavy academic theory and everyday language use, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills.
Job Specification:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in English Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or English Language Arts.
- Experience: 2+ years of teaching experience, ideally at the high school, A-Level, or college level.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging lessons to students on the structural levels of English (sounds, words, sentences, and meanings).
- Teach how English varies across different social, regional, and historical contexts (sociolinguistics and historical linguistics).
- Utilize active learning, data-driven analysis, and multimedia to help students analyze real-world language samples (e.g., parsing advertising texts, analyzing dialects).
- Create and grade assignments, quizzes, and exams that test both theoretical knowledge and practical analysis.
- Provide constructive, timely feedback on students' transcription exercises, essays, and research projects.
- Offer office hours or review sessions to support students struggling with abstract concepts.
- Maintain a respectful, vibrant classroom atmosphere that validates different dialects and linguistic backgrounds.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance data.
