English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) - Johanna Perrin Middle School (6-8)

Position Purpose

  • Administer NYSESLAT
  • Plan and deliver instruction for ELL students in accordance with NYS mandates and standards
  • Select, utilize and adapt appropriate second language learning strategies
  • Develop and implement effective student behavior management plans
  • Establish and maintain a daily schedule
  • Complete reports for student attendance, progress and evaluation
  • Attend school related meetings relevant to ENL program and students
  • Consult and co-plan with classroom teachers and school administrators regarding instruction and students' needs
  • Communicate with parents/guardians
  • Participate in professional development and continuing education
  • Travel to various locations as assigned to provide services

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, writing, and mathematics.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile

  • Knowledge of NYS Learning Standards, Common Core and ESL assessments
  • Experience with students with disabilities preferred.

Certification

  • Current New York State Certification in ESOL required.

Education

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Masters Degree preferred.

Experience

  • Successful prior teaching experience preferred.
