Job Title: Enhancement Design Engineer – Railway Industry

Position Summary

The Enhancement Design Engineer supports the planning, design, upgrade, and optimization of existing railway infrastructure and systems across the GCC/UAE network. The role focuses on improving performance, safety, reliability, and capacity of rail assets while ensuring compliance with regional standards, international best practices, and regulatory requirements.

This role works closely with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, track, signaling, telecom, rolling stock, and operations to deliver enhancements and modification works throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design & Engineering

• Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design solutions for railway enhancement, upgrade, and modification works.
• Prepare engineering drawings, design reports, calculations, and technical specifications.
• Conduct technical assessments of existing assets to identify improvement opportunities.
• Provide engineering input for track, civil, systems, and station enhancement projects.
• Ensure all designs align with UAE railway standards, GCC Railway Authority requirements, and international codes (EN, IEC, AREMA, ISO, BS, etc.).

2. Project Support & Coordination

• Support feasibility studies, value engineering, and design optimization initiatives.
• Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, and contractors to review and validate design submissions.
• Participate in technical workshops, design review meetings, and project progress updates.
• Provide technical support during installation, testing, commissioning, and integration phases.

3. Compliance & Safety

• Ensure designs meet safety, RAMS, and operational performance requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments and contribute to hazard identification and mitigation plans.
• Prepare design documentation for regulatory approvals and safety certifications.

4. Quality Assurance & Documentation

• Review design deliverables to ensure quality, accuracy, and constructability.
• Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and validate design assumptions.
• Maintain engineering records, design logs, and change management documentation.

5. Stakeholder Engagement

• Liaise with client representatives, government authorities, and operators (e.g., Etihad Rail, RTA, Serco, Saudi Railway).
• Support coordination with utility authorities, local municipalities, and third-party stakeholders during enhancement works.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Railway Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 5–10 years of engineering experience in railway projects (design, upgrade, or asset enhancement preferred).
• Experience in GCC rail systems (UAE, KSA, Qatar, Oman) is an advantage.
• Familiarity with signaling, telecom, OCS/OHE, rolling stock interfaces, and track systems.
• Proficiency in industry design tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM/Revit, Civil 3D, RailSys, Bentley Rail Track).
