Job Description Summary
The Principal / Lead Enterprise Architect will propose the architectural strategy and vision & leads the development to support the Platform or business unit they are aligned to. They will be an expert technologist that supports their Platform(s) define and lead the strategic north star and technology roadmaps associated to these. They can be a Line Manager or an Individual Contributor, requiring strong stakeholder management skills and deep domain knowledge.

Principal Architect: colleagues who support large business domain aligned to a CIO or CEO
Lead Architect: other scenarios.
Job Description
  • Summary
    Takes accountability for the strategic direction of architecture at Directorate and Divisional level. Provides deep specialist skills and knowledge and acts as a trusted advisor and internal consultant to Transformation Directors. Looks to external best practice to shape, define and lead the technological and architectural vision to support agile delivery of solutions, whilst ensuring the right outcomes for the Group are delivered from a risk and business strategy perspective.
    Key accountabilities are to:
  • Creates and maintains Composable Architecture Strategy for Retail banking, that can be deployed on public Private & hybrid clouds.
  • Does Decompostion using domain driven data & event Driven Architecture.
  • Using Thought Machine Vault as core banking platform & system of record for all the customer accounts related transactions & smart contracts.
  • Retail Banking Domain, Data Migration, Thought Machine Vault, composable Architecture, Microservices, Event driven Architecture, 3rd party integrations, personalisation.
  • Develops and improves relationships with Board members. Identifies priorities, issues and strategic challenges for a significant function or equivalent area of the business and prepares for discussion.
  • Manage relationships with strategic internal customers and act as their business partner, while typically using large support teams to ensure their satisfaction.
  • Represents the organisation in a variety of industry and professional forums to promote the value of the company brand especially for a significant area of responsibility e.g., a function.
  • Meets the needs of significant internal customers related to complex, often customised products and services.
  • Takes responsibility for implementing formal development frameworks for a substantial department, while informally coaching and mentoring others throughout the organisation and investing in own personal development.
  • Takes responsibility for fulfilling business plans for a significant functional business area by effectively leading a large team.
  • Explores how significant external changes and innovations will influence and challenge the whole organisation.
  • Takes overall responsibility for designing, developing, and delivering the strategic plan for product development for a significant area of the business.
  • Proposes the broad strategy for the entirety of a small, less complex business or a large, relatively autonomous subsidiary or a (group of) business(es) or strategic function that has scale and groupwide reach and which is integral to the core purpose of the total organisation.
  • Takes responsibility for developing and delivering a major part of the organisation's research programme to enable overall corporate strategy.
  • Determines how a business and/or function needs to evolve over the mid-term or long-term in order to enable the success of the enterprise.
  • Develops the strategy to achieve long-term business needs for a smaller, less complex businesses or a large, relatively autonomous subsidiary or a (group of) business(es) or strategic function which have scale and global reach and ensures implementation and execution of the strategy for the best benefit of the enterprise.
  • Manages the development and/or delivery of an element of the organisation's strategic planning.
  • Additional accountabilities are:
  • Pro-actively drive forward the agenda to simplify and modernise our technology landscape.
  • Work with a wide range of stakeholders up to and including executives, acting as an ambassador for Enterprise Architecture.
  • Identify and prioritise, issues and strategic challenges for a significant function or equivalent area of the business and prepare items for discussion.
  • Build strong relationships with strategic internal consultants and credibly communicate with key business and engineering stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Be a subject matter expert for architecture with deep and broad knowledge of technology, methodology and assurance techniques.
  • Translate the complex and ambiguous, into clear and simple strategies.
  • Have a broad understanding of software, infrastructure, integration, security, and data aspects of platform architectures with the ability to set and challenge direction across these domains as required.
  • Assesses industry trends, innovations, best practices for a given area and drives changes/transformation based on applicability to LBG.
  • Investing in your own personal development, and the development of others so skills and knowledge remain up to date as the industry continues to transform at a rapid pace.
  • Represent the organisation in a variety of industry and professional forums.
  • Coach and mentor others across the design & architecture community to ensure alignment to the LBG standards.
  • Desirable technical experience:
    Broad experience covering many of the following technologies:
  • Cloud platform technologies covering IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS services on Azure, GCP and AWS and services like IAM, Kubernetes, Serverless, Load balancing, observability etc.
  • Experience Architecting, designing and deploying private clouds.
  • Appreciation of complex enterprise strategies covering services being delivered across a hybrid hosting architecture of cloud and tradition platforms.
  • Data repositories including data products, systems of insight, systems of engagement and systems of record and deployment of these data products on cloud and in that process assess privacy, security, GDPR, traffic patterns, availability, resilience and reliability.
  • Designing mission critical systems on cloud which have challenging service parameters, for example RPO/RTO Zero.
  • Broad appreciation of cyber security (e.g., zero trust) and the architectural implications it has on application design.
  • Deploying modern disruptive technologies – e.g., machine learning, artificial intelligence, block chain etc., on hybrid cloud environments.
  • Complex enterprise operational infrastructure such as storage, backup, middleware, service management and tooling technologies.
