Wake County On-Site Water Protection is looking for a qualified self-motivated Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) with excellent problem-solving skills to join our team of seasoned experts in the field of Wastewater Repair Permitting. This position will work with our Wastewater Repair Permitting program to complete residents request to investigate septic system malfunctions, provide technical assistance and support, and issue system repair permits as needed. In addition, this position will support our Operation and Maintenance program and will collaborate with other groups throughout the department.

Essential Functions of this position include:
Performing wastewater complaint/repair request investigations
Review design and permit repairs for systems and conduct final inspection for repair system when required
Coordinates with management and contractors to make effective repairs and apply resources
Implements enforcement actions as needed to achieve compliance with home owners (may include working with legal staff to prepare for legal actions)
Conduct Operation and Maintenance (O&M) inspections for septic systems as required under 15A NCAC 18E 1300 - completes inspections as needed to maximize productivity for the business to meet division/departmental goals
Works within or beyond the inspections group to mentor and train new members or staff about techniques and methods to apply to complete inspections and repairs effectively

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field
Three years of experience in environmental planning, inspections or engineering
NC Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)
Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
Advanced degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field
Bilingual skills (Spanish) desired
How Will We Know You're 'The One'?
Knowledge of laws, rules and ordinances pertaining to public health and on-site waste disposal systems
Excellent oral and written communication skills to understand a customer perspective and provide services that meet expectations
Strong computer skills to use word processing, spreadsheet, and some database functionality
Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize, manage and coordinate multiple assignments
Results and quality oriented with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Must be able to work and perform duties in all types of weather, vegetative conditions and terrain

Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 8:30am - 5:15pm

Hiring Range: 75,109 - 105,157

Market Range: 75,108.00 - 135,202.00
