This position is in the General Government (GGU) bargaining unit at ranges 14/16/18
EPS 1: Range 14 - $1,999.50 Bi-weekly
EPS 2: Range 16 - $2,296.50 Bi-weekly
EPS 3: Range 18 - $2,646.00 Bi-weekly
This position is flexibly staffed. It may be filled at the 1, 2, or 3 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at a lower level, promotion to the higher level will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.

This Environmental Program Specialist position offers a valuable opportunity to develop expertise in environmental compliance and conservation while supporting the Alaska Army National Guard (AKARNG). It involves managing hazardous waste, fuel storage, spill response, soil and water sampling, site evaluation, and cultural resources, with formal and on-the-job training provided to enhance your skills. Working as part of the environmental compliance team, you'll contribute to the safe and sustainable management of AKARNG facilities, gaining hands-on experience in environmental stewardship within a dynamic military environment.

Our section's primary mission is to ensure environmental oversight and management across 18 AKARNG locations statewide by conducting staff training, engaging soldiers, performing compliance site visits, and delivering precise regulatory guidance. The successful applicants must pass a federal background check in order to qualify for military base access, which is required with this position's work location on base. The background check may include fingerprinting. All job offers are conditional pending successful completion of the federal background check and issuance of a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) card allowing base access. Also, you must be able to maintain the clearance throughout your employment. If using a private vehicle this will require a valid Alaska Driver License, proof of vehicle insurance, and a valid State of Alaska vehicle registration.

Additional Requirements:
May travel to remote areas of the state to support the Departments missions. DMVA is housed on the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson military base; incumbent must be able to pass security check to access this federal military installation and for acquisition of CAC card. Continued employment is contingent upon successful award of CAC card and continued eligibility to possess it.
