SUMMARY - We are a small, family run office with a large client foot-print across the Eastern half of the US, including Canada. In the Environmental Scientist/Technician role you will work in our office with other employees on reports, permitting, site planning, technical writing, and monitoring results.

Additionally, you will travel on a periodic basis to industrial locations in 25+ states to perform environmental sampling, including shredder residue monitoring, Stormwater & groundwater collection, etc., conduct site inspections, takes field notes and photos describing your observations and actions.

This will be a dynamic, multifaceted role. We are a small office, so employees that have the ability to assist with multiple disciplines in the environmental field will have the opportunity to receive exposure to many different tasks and jobs.

This is a full-time position with benefits. Candidates with AutoCAD, technical writing, and HAZWOPER training are of high interest.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Learn Industrial Environmental Consultants sampling protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Travel on a periodic basis 60% to 80% of time to active industrial sites located across United States.
  • Perform sampling and tests of environmental materials and inspections in the field.
  • Write technical reports for clients, governing bodies, and for IEC’s records as follow up to site visits.
  • While on industrial sites, employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical vehicles. The noise level at industrial sites is moderate to loud and for safety appropriate personnel protective equipment, or PPE, must be worn.
  • Use field equipment including thermometers, dissolved oxygen meter, flow meters, turbidity meter (turbidimeter), pH meter, pumps, tubing, and depth indicator and be proficient in cleaning and calibrating field equipment.
  • Observe dials, gauges, calibration standards, and indicators to make sure that field equipment is working properly.
  • Analyze and report color, odor, solid and solid/liquid phases of Stormwater samples and classify soil types.
  • Label samples and complete sample Chain-of-Custody documents following IEC and legal standards.
  • Package and use FedEx to send or personally transport samples to IEC or chemical laboratory for analysis.
  • Employee will need to be able to carry or haul samples and equipment of 50 pounds packages or more.
  • At industrial facilities employee may be required to walk long distances over rough terrain, climb, kneel, squat, stoop and bend on an occasional to frequent basis while sampling in the presence of large mobile and stationary equipment.
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines, including standards adopted by IEC and by clients for all projects.
  • Track and complete time and expense reports and communicate clearly with IEC staff and clients.
  • Discuss other services IEC offers while on site.
  • Employee may be authorized to work and be paid overtime to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

Qualifications and Skills: The qualifications and skills needed for this position are as follows:

  • Preferred to have 3-7 years’ work related experience will be considered
  • Training / Education in technical and environmental science
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word /Excel /PowerPoint/Access a plus
  • 40-Hour Hazwoper Certification a plus
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD a plus

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
