Job Purpose
• Facilitate the implementation of applicable environment and sustainability elements of the company’s Integrated Management System (IMS) to assigned operational activities / packages of work.
• Monitor operational activities / packages of work activities in respect of legal and other environmental and sustainability compliance requirements, report identified issues, and as necessary provide guidance / assistance to operations team and those involved with packages of work.
• Identify and communicate opportunities to improve environment and sustainability related IMS documents to Head of Quality and Environment.
• Support continual improvement of the organization’s performance towards it achieving environmental and sustainability objectives.
Principal Accountabilities
• Monitor and assess the implementation of Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for operational activities, and the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) for packages of work.
• Verify and maintain the organization’s environmental legal and other requirements register.
• Monitor operational activities / packages of work in respect of legal and other environment and sustainability compliance, report identified issues and provide guidance / assistance as necessary.
• Monitor and provide feedback on PMEC, contractor, and other subcontractors / supplier environmental site inspections.
• Collate environment and sustainability performance data necessary to support the achievement of organization objectives.
• Support the implementation of an Emergency Response Plan covering potential environmental incident situations or occurrences.
• Participate in Internal Audits or external audits conducted by the organization’s Third-party certification body as required.
• Follow-up and ensure closure of any non-compliances identified through Audit or inspection processes.
• Identify potential environmental and sustainability training needs, and deliver such training as required.
• Support the implementation of environmental and sustainability incentive processes.
• Report on all organizational operational activity environmental related incidents to HSE Management.
• Participate in the investigation of environmental related incidents, ensuring the development and implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence, as required.
• To assist with evaluations of subcontractors / supplier and sustainability compliance capabilities prior to contract awards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
• A degree in a relevant environmental or sustainability field and/ or sciences, engineering complemented with qualifications and certifications in environment and sustainability field.
• Minimum five (5) years’ work experience in the application of environmental and sustainability management principles in Oman and/or UAE. Work experience in construction is ideal, and experience in rail sector is an advantage.
• Communicate clearly and concisely in written and spoken English language. Written and spoken Arabic language is an advantage.
• Competent user of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Working knowledge of online environmental and sustainability regulatory reporting systems (i.e. waste management, environmental breaches and incident reporting) in Oman and/or UAE.
• Third-party certification in ISO 14001 Auditor.
• Qualifications in Train the Trainer are an advantage.
