Job Description and Duties

Are you passionate about conservation and interested in bridging the gap between traditional management approaches and new technologies? Do you want to join a team of highly motivated, multi-disciplinary scientists and gain a wide breadth of experience? If yes, then this is the position for you! The Office of Cannabis is looking for an Environmental Services Intern (can work up to 1,500 hrs in a year) to join our team of dedicated wildlife professionals. You will help implement a variety of wildlife field methods, including camera trap, drift fence, and sound recorder surveys, and then process the resulting data with the help of machine learning tools. This position will give you experience with a broad diversity of tasks, from field work to data processing to data analysis!


The Environmental Services Intern classification is a non-testing classification.

The language below is required for these NT classifications.
  • Applicants who receive public assistance under the CalWORKs program shall be given hiring priority consideration as provided in Government Code, Section 19063.

Working Conditions

This position includes field work most weeks between April and July. This includes staying at hotels away from home 3 nights per week. Must safely perform field work, which may require operating a 4WD vehicle, wearing a uniform, wading through streams, carrying heavy equipment over uneven terrain, and working extended or irregular hours in inclement weather. When not in the field, this position is eligible for telework (two office days; three work from home days) based on the department's current telework policy. Must be able to conduct office work involving use of a computer keyboard for several hours a day, usually sitting, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Desirable Qualifications
