JOB DESCRIPTION
MAJOR FUNCTION
Safety Controls Technology (SCT) is a nationally recognized occupational safety and health consulting firm, specializing in direct clinical support for large manufacturing businesses. SCT is seeking An Environmental Technician to support our client Gallo Glass located in Modesto California.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under the direction of SCT's Leadership, the Environmental Technician will perform the following tasks:
i. Provide emergency response service on site for incidental spill response; coordinate with other vendors and local agencies for large scale emergencies (emergency response service billed additionally)
ii.
o Documented inspection for Title 22 compliance of all hazardous waste satellite and 90-day accumulation areas at Gallo Glass using the Gallo Glass approved form
o Documented inspection of the Gallo Glass basement drip pans and oily water drums using the Gallo Glass approved form
o Documented inspection of the Ceramic Dust Collector (CDC) excluded recyclable material transport system using the Gallo Glass approved form
o CDC system daily inspections, waste bag management and associated duties
o Transfer of hazardous waste material into bulk containers
o Hot End swab dope wand waste removal and clipping for metal recycling
o Basement oily water drum replacement with Gallo Glass provided drums
o Completion of computer-based forms, checking emails, and responding
o Leading shift turnover meetings, and communicating with plant personnel
iii.
o Decontamination of lime injection scrubber room and areas outside of CDCs
iv.
o Secondary containment inspection and cleanout
o Basement dip tank cleanouts
o Mold Shop decontamination
v.
o Reclaim water solids in the basement trenches cleanout (tanks & pits billed additionally)
vi. Other site cleanup, inspection, and compliance tasks as assigned
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
· Knowledge, Training and applicable credentials in the following environmental codes and standards [training and continuing education provided]
o Cal/OSHA CCR Title 8
o DTSC CCR Title 22
o California Health & Safety Code
· 1+ year experience in the manufacturing industry with environmental, health and safety operations or equivalent experience.
· Hazardous waste management experience preferred.
· OSHA 30 in General Industry, or equivalent, required [training provided]
· Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DTSC regulations.
· High school diploma required,
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
· English fluent required.
· Spanish speaking preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Standing and walking for extended periods of time (12+ hours per day).
· Lifting, carrying, and moving containers over 50 pounds periodically throughout day
· Communication skills using the spoken and written word.
· Ability to see and hear within normal parameters.
· Ability to move about, including climbing ladders and stairs.
· Ability to work in hot and loud environments for extended period of time.
