Position Description:

In this role the successful candidate will be an individual that possesses or can actively grow sound knowledge of how technology is situated in the workflow of clinicians and others within healthcare. The Epic Principal Trainer will be responsible for developing and maintaining course curricula and supporting training materials for their assigned applications. The Epic Principal Trainer will conduct training for new staff, provide refresher training as needed, and coordinate and implement training for software upgrades and updates. The Epic Principal Trainer will work closely with leaders, subject matter experts, analysts, and training team members on all aspects of the Epic project to assure project deadlines are met and to ensure all training reflects operational workflows, policies, and procedures.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Gain and maintain new Epic certifications/badges, or, show proof of maintained Epic certifications/badges from previous position
  • Know or be willing to learn how to create, present, and maintain training materials for assigned Epic application(s)
  • Able to have clear, effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills for classroom trainings
  • Able to have clear, effective communication skills with various Operational Leadership and Information Systems team members
  • Able to become competent in finding LMH policy and procedures that affect workflows related to assigned Epic application(s)
  • Able to become the content expert for assigned Epic application(s)
  • Know or be willing to learn how to coordinate application post-live training, including: new updates, new hire orientation changes, and ongoing optimizations
  • Know or be willing to learn how to identify training gaps and opportunities to improve operational efficiencies
  • Know or be willing to learn how to manage Epic training environments and patient build to supplement end-user training workflows
  • Know or be willing to learn overall Epic downtime processes for Information Systems and assigned Epic area(s) of coverage
  • Able to work with the Epic Training Manager on project assignments and provide timely, weekly status report updates for assigned Epic application(s)
  • Willing to improve other technical skills needed as an Information Systems team member, including: document control workflows, curriculum review boards, ticketing follow-ups, etc.

Scope:

Strong verbal communication and public speaking skills, strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport easily, a willingness to learn and become proficient regarding the application(s) assigned to teach. Have the ability to adapt to change. Comfort with technology and ability to learn new applications quickly.

Experience:

  • Preferred Healthcare IT experience with responsibilities around teaching/training adult learners
  • Preferred Epic certification or experience in clinical documentation area. (Epic Trainer new certification is required within 6 months from employment.)
  • Preferred knowledge and comprehension of Healthcare Operational workflows
  • Preferred knowledge and comprehension of clinical workflows and experience working to train staff
  • Strong interpersonal presentation and communication skills required to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts
  • Strong documentation skills and ability to follow up and complete projects
  • Strong skills in PC desktop applications such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Can identify opportunities for additional education and advancement of Epic utilization

Requirements:

  • LMH is accredited by DNV and TJC, and as such, may require specific annual education related to specialty certifications and standards.

Education:

Required Bachelor's Degree or have acquired equivalent experience (1-3 years). Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Health Information, Business Administration, Education, Clinical Field or similar degree. Preferred certification in at least one Epic application or prior CT Experience obtained.
