Epidemiologist II - Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics

HJF is seeking an Epidemiologist II to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. Exercise technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of data that contribute to project strategies.

This position will be in support of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics (PMB) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU). USU is the Nation's federal health sciences university and is committed to excellence in military medicine and public health during peace and war. USU serves the uniformed services and the Nation as an outstanding academic health sciences center with a worldwide perspective for education, research, service, and consultation. USU uniquely relates these activities to military medicine, disaster medicine, and military medical readiness.

This position will initially support two research areas within PMB. The first is a project funded by the USU Center for Health Services Research evaluating the utility and validity of machine learning tools in biomedicine by applying innovative epidemiologic and computational methods to evaluate ML-based clinical decision support tools. The proposed methods, including target trial emulation and the creation of synthetic patient cohorts for in silico analysis, will generate insights for wound healing and preventing serious complications following traumatic injury. The second project is funded by the Defense Health Agency and addresses the challenges in queue management within the Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS, an enterprise electronic health record (EHR) system. Effective queue management is a critical component of healthcare operations management, impacting timely access to care, patient satisfaction, clinical outcomes, and efficient resource utilization. This project aims to uncover the underlying causes of specific inefficiencies in the MHS GENESIS system and to develop data driven solutions to optimize queue management to improve timely access to care, clinical outcomes, patient and provider satisfaction, and cost-benefit efficiency.

PMB is responsible for providing comprehensive education and training programs appropriate to the training of students of medicine, and for the development and conduct of educational programs in public health for graduate students, postgraduate fellows, residents, and other personnel as required.
