Job Title: Equipment Inspector
Job Summary
The Equipment Inspector is responsible for inspecting, evaluating, and ensuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of equipment used in operations. This role conducts routine and detailed inspections, identifies defects or hazards, documents findings, and recommends corrective actions to maintain operational standards and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities1. Inspection & Evaluation
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment to verify condition, performance, and compliance with standards.
- Identify mechanical, electrical, structural, or functional issues.
- Perform pre-delivery, in-service, and post-maintenance inspections.
- Inspect safety devices, control systems, load-bearing components, and other critical parts.
2. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure equipment meets relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Verify compliance with company policies, OSHA/industry regulations (or sector-specific standards).
- Report unsafe conditions and recommend immediate corrective actions.
3. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, checklists, and corrective action requests.
- Maintain inspection records and update equipment history logs.
- Document defects, wear patterns, test measurements, and photographs where required.
4. Testing & Diagnostics
- Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) or other diagnostic tests (if certified/required).
- Verify calibration and accuracy of monitoring and measurement devices.
- Conduct performance and load testing based on equipment type.
5. Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to resolve equipment issues.
- Communicate inspection results and follow-up recommendations.
- Assist in scheduling inspections and ensuring timely corrective actions.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or technical/vocational certificate required.
- Associate Degree or equivalent technical education preferred.
- Industry-specific certifications (API, AWS, NDT, LEEA, or others) beneficial depending on sector.
Experience
- 1–3+ years of experience in equipment inspection, maintenance, or related technical roles.
- Experience in industrial, construction, oil & gas, manufacturing, or heavy equipment environments preferred.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics, and inspection manuals.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools and inspection instruments.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and communication skills.
Work Environment
- Field-based or on-site within industrial, construction, or operational facilities.
- May require climbing, lifting, confined-space entry, or exposure to outdoor conditions.
- Must follow strict safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE.
