The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Southcoast Region Highways and Aviation/M&O is looking for an Equipment Operator, Journey 1/2/3 Lead in King Salmon to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
Equipment Operator Journey 2:
Performs airport and highway maintenance at the State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of highways and airports.
Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3:
Performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of highways and airports.

The crew operates and maintains our airport and highways in all conditions, year around. Whether plowing snow in near “white-out” conditions; repairing asphalt; maintaining airfield lighting and signs; or training for any emergency that may occur. Special Note:
Equipment Operator Journey 1:
As a condition of employment, the incumbent shall obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (in accordance with49 CFR Part 383.23) within six (6) months of hire and shall comply with all provisions set forth in the most recent Equipment Operator Flex Letter of Agreement (LOA). Failure to obtain the required licensure within the specified timeframe shall result in termination of employment.
The incumbent must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements applicable to CDL and safety-sensitive positions. Drug screening is required prior to operating any equipment requiring a CDL. Upon licensure, the incumbent shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with established policy.
Where applicable, the incumbent shall obtain and maintain firearms qualification.
Equipment Operator Journey 2:
Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in accordance with 49 CFR Part 383.23, as well as compliance with the most recent Equipment Operator Flex Letter of Agreement (LOA), is required.
A valid Tanker (N) endorsement is required at the time of appointment or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire under a conditional memorandum. Management may also require the incumbent to obtain a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) endorsement; however, this is not required at the time of appointment.
The incumbent must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements applicable to CDL and safety-sensitive positions, including a background check and pre-employment drug testing. Upon appointment, the incumbent shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with policy.
Where applicable, the incumbent shall obtain and maintain firearms qualification.
Equipment Operator Journey 3:

If flexing from Equipment Operator Journey 2 to Equipment Operator Journey 3, the incumbent must meet all requirements outlined in the most recent Equipment Operator Flex LOA, including successful completion of employer-provided Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) training and demonstration of ARFF competencies.
The incumbent must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements applicable to CDL and safety-sensitive positions, including a background check and pre-employment drug testing. Upon appointment, the incumbent shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with policy.
Where applicable, the incumbent shall obtain and maintain firearms qualification.

Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required Pre-Employment drug test. According to federal regulations, all violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Equipment Operator Journey 1, Equipment Operator Journey 2, or Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3 level depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
