Location- Wyomissing, Pennsylvania
The Equipment Operator will be responsible to operate a wide variety of machinery used in concrete projects. Must be able to maintain all equipment in working order on the project site.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (“Incidental” job duties may be included but listed)
- Responsible to operate a variety of machinery on the job site, as experience allows, to include but not limited to Bobcat, Backhoe, Excavators of various sizes, Loaders (track and rubber tire) Dozer, Forklift and must operate a Roller both driving and operating while walking from the rear.
- Conducts routine jobsite equipment inspections and preventative maintenance and maintains accurate records. These inspections must include completing a daily checklist, grease fittings, checking fluids, ensuring cleanliness of machinery both inside and out, cleaning tracks at end of shift, and notifying the Canyon Mechanic immediately when service is needed or worn/broken parts have been identified.
- Controlling operations of machinery at all times.
- Follow appropriate standard operating procedures as guideline for operating and maintaining machinery.
- Understanding and complying with the regulations such as utility locating/marking requirements and OSHA safety standards.
- Must operate all machinery in compliance with the company operating safety policies and procedures.
- When operating machinery, the following are safety guidelines and adherence is expected at all times.
- Keep a safe distance from overhead power lines
- Keep a safe distance from any buildings, people, or vehicles
- Ensure backup alarms are always in working order
- Never operate a piece of machinery when its mirrors are not in good working order
- Gain knowledge of the area’s terrain prior to operating the piece of machinery
- Responsible to ensure that the Miss Utility ticket has been generated prior to excavation
- Must stay a minimum of three (3) feet away from marked utilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned while not operating
- Build and develop trusting relationships with current customers and seek to identify opportunities to grow our customer base and build positive relationships.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE (Include necessary licenses and specialized training.)
- 3-5 years’ experience as an Equipment Operator with a high school degree or GED Should have experience in operating machinery - excavator, mini excavator, skid steer, backhoe, loaders, etc.
- Able to communicate effectively with others and work cooperatively in teams (including resolving basic conflicts with or without the assistance of management).
- Able to communicate and interact both verbally and written.
- Able to perform detailed work and make effective decisions to maintain production, quality and safety under pressure and deadlines.
- Handle emergency situations, work pressure and stress.
- Able to solve problems.
- Able to work with minimum supervision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. Must be able to stand, bend, climb and kneel for prolonged periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work safely in a variety of weather conditions and terrains. Position will require that employee have manual dexterity, good sense of balance and excellent hand-eye coordination. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
