Equipment Technician / Mechanic

Job Description – Metal Recycling Factory

Job Summary

The Equipment Technician / Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy equipment, machinery, and mechanical systems used in metal recycling operations. The role ensures maximum equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and compliance with safety standards to minimize downtime in the plant.

Key Responsibilities

Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

  • Perform preventive maintenance on recycling plant machinery and heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults in shredders, balers, conveyors, cranes, forklifts, loaders, and hydraulic systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and equipment condition monitoring.
  • Replace defective mechanical parts, bearings, motors, pumps, belts, chains, and hydraulic components.
  • Carry out corrective maintenance during equipment breakdowns and emergency shutdowns.

Equipment Troubleshooting

  • Identify mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
  • Troubleshoot operational failures and implement effective repair solutions.
  • Coordinate with electrical and production teams during maintenance activities.

Workshop & Fabrication Support

  • Perform basic welding, cutting, and fabrication works when required.
  • Use workshop tools and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
  • Assist in machinery installation, modification, and commissioning activities.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow company HSE policies and safe work procedures.
  • Ensure proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance activities.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas in compliance with factory safety regulations.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and maintenance risks immediately.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain maintenance logs, repair records, and spare parts usage reports.
  • Report recurring equipment failures and recommend improvements.
  • Assist in inventory control of maintenance tools and spare parts.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Technical Certification in Mechanical Engineering, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, Industrial Maintenance, or related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in industrial plants, metal recycling, steel manufacturing, heavy industry, or similar environment.
  • Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems is required.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance systems and workshop practices.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and equipment manuals.
  • Familiarity with welding and fabrication is an advantage.
  • GCC/Qatar experience preferred.

Pay: QAR2,500.00 - QAR3,500.00 per month
