Why does the job exist?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) supports 46 states and 6 U.S. territories and freely associated states via the Enhancing Reviews and Surveillance to Eliminate Maternal Mortality (ERASE MM) program and grant. This funding supports maternal mortality review committees (MMRCs) to identify, review, and characterize pregnancy-related deaths; and identify prevention opportunities. The NM Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC) provides diverse, multidisciplinary expertise to review each death occurring during pregnancy or within one year of a pregnancy to determine: Pregnancy-relatedness; Contributing factors; Prevent-ability; and Actionable recommendations to prevent future deaths.
How does it get done?
The Senior Social Services Coordinator position coordinates program activities to prevent maternal mortality, including addressing disparities among diverse populations.
- Administer and coordinate the requirements for the CDC ERASE Maternal Mortality Program and grant.
- Participate in the MMRC process which includes but not limited to; contribute to the development of case narratives; support case reviews; and participate in analysis of MMRC findings. Assist with successful completion of MMRC process and protocols in all capacity permissible for this position.
- Provide administrative coordination and support to the Maternal Health (MH) Program Manager, MH Fiscal Coordinator, MMRC and its executive committee, and operational staff who fulfill specific roles related to abstraction, analysis, communications, and community engagement and partnership.
- Provide training, prepare program reports, evaluate and make recommendations for program modifications or
changes to improve program processes.
- Contribute to Title V Maternal Child Health Block Grant requirements and activities related to maternal and perinatal domains.
- Develop relationship and support meeting logistics and minutes, orientation and administrative tracking of MMRC memberships.
- Provide customer service to NMDOH staff, Pregnant Women of NM, MMRC Members and independent practitioners. Participate in special projects and initiatives as required based on NMDOH's need.

Minimum Qualification
Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Family Studies/Services, Social Sciences, or Human Services and one (1) year of experience as a social work assistant and/or in social or community coordination, working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, and/or behavioral health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Office setting. Sitting for long periods of time viewing computer monitor. Repetitive hand movement. Standing, walking, lifting up to 20 lbs. Use of computer, copier and cell phone. Occasional travel will be required.
