The Emergency Room/ICU Director provides leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for all emergencies and intensive care unit nursing services. This role ensures compliance with clinical, safety, and regulatory standards, optimizes patient care delivery and outcomes, and leads department staff and operations to support the hospital’s mission and daily operations.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree preferred
Current Wyoming RN license
Minimum five years’ progressive nursing experience, with at least three years in emergency or critical care and two years of supervisory/managerial experience
ACLS, PALS, required. TNCC, ENPC certifications within 12 months of hire.
1. Develop and implement Emergency Department and ICU workflows, policies, and clinical pathways
2. Assist in selection of equipment, supplies, and room setup for ER and ICU operations
3. Directs plans and supervises all aspects of emergency and critical care unit operations, including patient triage, admissions, transfers, observation, discharge workflows, acuity management, and nursing care delivery
4. Collaborates with EMS agencies, local providers, and regional hospitals to coordinate emergency services and transfers
5. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies, accreditation requirements, and patient safety standards
6. Participate in strategic planning, service line development, and growth initiatives for emergency and critical care services
7. Establish and monitor department metrics including patient volume, door-to-provider time, length of stay, transfer times, and patient outcomes
8. Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, and oversee all ER/ICU nursing staff
9. Establish staffing models, schedules, and competency requirements for ER and ICU staff
10. Ensures ongoing education for staff in emergency/critical care knowledge, infection control, and regulatory requirements
11. Prepares and administers departmental budgets, oversees procurement, inventory, and supply contracts
12. Coordinates with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and hospital staff to optimize patient outcomes and transitions of care
13. Leads initiatives to improve patient, visitor, and staff satisfaction, and quality metrics
14. Maintains accurate clinical and operational records, including audits, safety checks, and quality assurance
15. Responds rapidly to clinical emergencies and department service interruptions

17. Participate in hospital administrative call rotation as assigned
