ESL Teacher (Middle)

Job Purpose:

The ESL Teacher is responsible for teaching English to students whose first language is not English, with a focus on improving reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The role aims to develop students’ fluency, comprehension, and confidence in English, while supporting their academic growth and cultural understanding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging ESL lessons tailored to students’ proficiency levels.
  • Teach grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversational English in an interactive way.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods (role-play, group activities, presentations, and multimedia tools) to enhance learning.
  • Assess student progress regularly through assignments, quizzes, oral presentations, and exams.
  • Provide constructive feedback and individual support to help students overcome language barriers.
  • Create an inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and builds confidence.
  • Design supplementary learning materials such as worksheets, reading passages, and audio-visual resources.
  • Incorporate cultural awareness into lessons to help students adapt socially and academically.
  • Maintain accurate student records, attendance, and progress reports.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and administration to align ESL instruction with overall school/college curriculum.
  • Organize language development activities like debates, storytelling, and speech competitions.
  • Support students in preparing for English proficiency tests (TOEFL, IELTS, or internal exams, if applicable).
  • Stay updated with modern ESL teaching methodologies, online tools, and educational technologies.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians about student performance and improvement areas.
  • Participate in staff meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or Education (B.Ed./M.Ed. preferred).
  • ESL certification such as TESOL, CELTA, or TEFL (strongly preferred).
  • Previous teaching experience in ESL/ELL (English Language Learners) programs.
  • Excellent command of English (both written and spoken).
  • Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with digital learning tools and ESL teaching software.
