Estimation Engineer (BOQ & Costing)


Job Purpose:

The Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and pricing analyses for engineering and construction projects. The role ensures that project scope, quantities, and budgets are clearly defined and aligned with technical requirements to support effective planning, procurement, and execution in accordance with approved standards and procedures.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for construction, infrastructure, and engineering projects.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and scope documents to ensure completeness prior to estimation activities.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and validate material, labor, and equipment requirements.
  • Develop Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) in line with project and organizational standards.
  • Coordinate with design engineers and project teams to clarify technical aspects impacting cost.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Update estimates based on design changes, scope variations, and market fluctuations.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of cost data, assumptions, and supporting documentation.
  • Support tendering and procurement processes, including pricing schedules and technical clarifications.
  • Assist in cost control, budgeting, and monitoring project expenditures against approved estimates.
  • Contribute to value engineering initiatives and cost optimization strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, contractual requirements, and industry standards.
  • Prepare periodic cost reports and estimation summaries for management review.
  • Coordinate with procurement and contracts teams to align estimates with contractual terms.


Minimum Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Construction Engineering
  • Or a related discipline

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience

Technical Skills:

  • Strong expertise in quantity take-off, cost estimation, and BOQ preparation
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  • In-depth knowledge of construction materials, methods, and cost structures
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (cost modeling, analysis, and reporting)
  • Familiarity with industry tools such as:
  • Primavera P6
  • AutoCAD
  • Other relevant estimation/planning software
  • Strong analytical skills to identify cost risks and discrepancies
  • Excellent documentation and record-keeping capabilities
  • Effective communication and coordination skills with multidisciplinary teams
