Job Summary
The Estimation Engineer is responsible for analyzing project requirements, drawings, and specifications to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates. This role is crucial for bidding on new projects, ensuring profitability, and supporting project management throughout the project lifecycle. The Estimation Engineer collaborates with various teams, including project managers, architects, engineers, and clients, to develop comprehensive proposals and ensure projects are financially feasible.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation:
- Analyze project documents, blueprints, and technical specifications to understand the scope of work.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and other resources.
- Conduct quantity take-offs and develop bills of quantities (BoQs).
- Incorporate overheads, contingencies, and profit margins into the estimates.
- Tender and Bid Management:
- Prepare and submit competitive and accurate tenders and bid proposals.
- Liaise with the procurement team to obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Ensure all tender documents comply with client and regulatory requirements.
- Risk Analysis and Financial Management:
- Identify potential project risks and financial uncertainties.
- Develop and integrate contingency plans into the estimates to mitigate potential cost deviations.
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analysis for various project approaches.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with project teams (e.g., engineers, designers, project managers) to ensure estimates align with project goals and technical specifications.
- Present and explain estimates and budget proposals to management and clients.
- Negotiate pricing and terms with vendors and subcontractors.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain an organized database of historical cost data and estimation records.
- Prepare detailed reports for management review and decision-making.
- Continuously track and compare estimated costs against actual project expenses and report on any discrepancies.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Educational Background:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Civil, or Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management.
- 2-3 years
- Experience:
- Proven experience in cost estimation within the relevant industry
- Knowledge of local market rates, industry standards, and UAE-specific construction regulations is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in estimation and project management software (e.g., AutoCAD, Primavera, plain swift)
- Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced skills in Excel for financial modeling and data analysis.
- Solid understanding of construction and engineering processes, methods, and materials.
