Estimator

Position Summary

The Roads Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for road and highway construction projects. The role involves reviewing tender documents, performing quantity take-offs, analyzing project requirements, pricing resources, and coordinating with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal departments to develop competitive and profitable bids.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze tender documents, drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for road and infrastructure works.
  • Develop cost estimates for:
  • Earthworks (excavation, filling, grading)
  • Subgrade, subbase, and road base layers
  • Asphalt paving and road surfacing works
  • Drainage and stormwater systems
  • Curbs, sidewalks, and interlock paving
  • Traffic management and road safety works
  • Road markings, signs, and street furniture
  • Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) pricing and cost breakdowns.
  • Analyze labor, equipment, material, and transportation costs.
  • Identify project risks, assumptions, and opportunities that may impact pricing.
  • Coordinate with engineering, planning, procurement, and construction teams during bid preparation.
  • Conduct site visits and attend pre-bid meetings when required.
  • Prepare technical and commercial tender submissions.
  • Maintain and update cost databases, production rates, and market prices.
  • Support project teams with cost-related analysis during project execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 3–10 years of experience in estimating road, highway, and infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of road construction methods, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Experience in government and private-sector tendering is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in quantity take-off and cost estimation techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of road construction materials, equipment, and productivity rates.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is preferred.
  • Familiarity with estimation and project control software such as CCS Candy, Primavera, or equivalent.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

  • Accuracy of cost estimates versus actual project costs.
  • Timely submission of tenders and bids.
  • Tender success (win) rate.
  • Accuracy of quantity take-offs and BOQ pricing.
  • Contribution to project profitability and cost optimization.

Objective

To deliver accurate, competitive, and commercially viable cost estimates for road and highway projects, supporting successful tender submissions and profitable project execution.

Pay: BD250.000 - BD300.000 per hour
