Estimator – Marine

Key Responsibilities


• Review RFQs / ITT documents related to ship repair, dry docking, offshore vessels, conversions and marine fabrication projects.

• Analyze client specifications, docking lists, repair scope, and technical drawings.

• Develop detailed scope of work for marine repair, steel renewal, piping, mechanical, electrical, blasting & painting activities.

• Coordinate with Production, Planning, Procurement, Engineering, QA/QC and other departments to obtain manpower, material, and subcontractor cost inputs.

• Obtain quotations from approved marine suppliers and subcontractors.

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for ship repair, new build support works, offshore vessel modifications and marine fabrication projects.

• Prepare Technical & Commercial Proposals in line with shipyard standards and client requirements.

• Coordinate with Legal, Insurance, Tax and other corporate functions to ensure compliance in tender submissions.

• Submit finalized tenders through the Business Development team upon management approval.

• Attend client meetings, pre-bid meetings and technical clarification meetings when required.

• Prepare and respond to technical & commercial clarifications raised by clients.

• Support negotiations with clients and provide commercial recommendations to management.

• Monitor project progress against estimated budgets and timelines.

• Conduct vessel/site visits for scope verification, additional quotations, variation orders and cost adjustments.

• Prepare cost tracking reports and daily/weekly cost updates for management review.

• Prepare draft invoices based on agreed quotations, actual costs incurred and approved variations.

• Coordinate invoice approvals with client representatives and finance departments.

• Finalize commercial settlements upon project completion.

• Maintain and update quotation register, invoice register, project register and contractual documentation.

• Ensure proper filing and documentation of all commercial records.

• Perform any additional duties assigned by Manager – Commercial or Shipyard Management.


Preferred Background


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Naval Architecture or related discipline
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Shipyard, Marine Repair industry
  • Strong knowledge of dry docking, ship repair scope, marine standards & classification requirements
  • Experience in costing steel works, piping, machinery repair, electrical works and marine subcontracting
  • Strong negotiation and commercial acumen
  • Ability to interpret marine drawings and technical specifications
