Role Summary

Work out job estimates in the most realistic, accurate and competitive way for the submission of the quotations on enquiries and tenders received by sharing expert knowledge on the materials, processing methods and labour component of KSA.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Based on good knowledge of the material, processing method and labour components analyse tender information.
  • Read the drawings effectively to assess the cost-effectiveness of products, projects and/or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops and share the details with line manager.
  • Initiate and close Request for Information (RFI) to client/ consultants as well as Request for Quotations (RFQ) to supplier/ subcontractors and analyze them while using it for the bidding process.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, consultants and internal departments to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Analyze and review estimates for use in selecting suppliers or subcontractors.
  • Coordinate with different departments for the required information in the bidding process.
  • Review material and labour requirements to decide whether it is more cost effective to produce or purchase components.
  • Review of commercial and technical risk in tenders and mitigate in tender process.
  • Knowledge of Specified, alternative and Value engineering.
  • On material review and analysis, ensure that items/material are fit for purpose and quotes/agreements from third-party suppliers are processed to benefit execution eventually. Assess and comment on warranties, guarantees, samples, method statements, applicability etc…
  • Submit proposals on system and process enhancements
  • Preparation and maintaining a directory of suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Preparing tender logs, enquiry logs and Order of documentation.
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hours and related cost data to effect cost reduction by bringing in external practices and benchmarking current practices.
  • Prepare and maintain a standard items calculation and resource requirements.
  • Supervise and review purchasing files and records, price lists, the status of requisitions, contracts and orders, locate suppliers and subcontractors, monitor subcontractor performance, calculate the cost of orders (as an when required)
  • Support line manager in the negotiation of contracts and lines of credit with suppliers and subcontractors.

Personal qualities

The ideal candidate for the role of Estimator has the following skills, personal qualities, and experience:

  • More than 5 years of experience in fit-out industry with GCC Experience is an added advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of MEP.
  • B. Tech, B.E or Diploma holder.
  • Knowledge of the full tender process and experience in value engineering.
  • Experience in analysing trade comparisons
  • Experience in retail and commercial projects
  • Experience in handling projects that handled from 300k to 20 million.
  • Hands-on experience – Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Plan Swift, etc
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage your own time in order to hit deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally in ‘business English’ both in writing and orally
