Job Description & Summary

At PwC, our people in project portfolio management focus on optimising project portfolios to drive strategic business outcomes. These individuals oversee project selection, prioritisation, and resource allocation to facilitate successful project delivery.

In project management at PwC, you will oversee and coordinate various projects to facilitate successful delivery within budget and timeline. You will leverage strong organisational and communication skills to effectively manage teams and stakeholders.

About The Team

The Capital Project Services (CPS) team is made up of skilled professionals with expertise in delivering capital projects across a variety of sectors, including Energy, Utilities, and Resource, Transport, Oil & Gas and Government & Healthcare. We help clients maximise the value of their projects and businesses by providing the knowledge and support needed to navigate complex and challenging situations.

Role Overview

As a CPS Manager, you will design and implement effective project and programme management strategies for clients across multiple industries. You will work closely with senior leaders of major global organisations to improve the efficiency of their capital programmes, support the achievement of project objectives, and provide guidance to clients managing projects within tight budget constraints. You will also assist clients in overcoming project delivery challenges. The role will be predominately focussed on the UK market, which you will typically support remotely from the ETIC. Candidates should be available to travel regionally and to the UK, although this will not be required regularly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, reporting to senior members of staff, both in ETIC and the UK.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop junior team members, providing training and guidance as required.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, acting as a key point of contact.
  • Contribute to the technical development of both yourself and the wider team, ensuring up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices.
  • Stay informed about local and national business and economic trends relevant to capital projects.
  • Participate in business development activities, including identifying and researching new opportunities with existing and prospective clients.
  • Foster strong internal relationships and actively promote the CPS team’s capabilities within the firm.

Types Of Engagements You Will Work On

CPS assists clients with a broad range of challenges relating to their capital programmes. We are constantly adapting our approach to meet our clients needs and challenges. Some typical engagements are as follows:

  • Programme Recovery and Turnaround: Supporting a public sector client whose major infrastructure programme was facing significant delays and cost overruns. Conduct a comprehensive review, identify root causes, and implement a recovery plan to bring the programme back on track.
  • Capital Programme Optimisation: Work with a utility company to review and optimise their capital investment portfolio. This includes prioritising projects, streamlining governance processes, and introducing new performance management tools to maximise return on investment.
  • Digital Transformation of Project Controls: Assist a infrastructure asset owner in implementing digital project controls across their capital projects portfolio. Selecting and deploying new project management software, training staff, and embedding new ways of working to improve transparency and reporting.
  • Procurement and Supply Chain Strategy: Advising a utilities company on the development and execution of a new procurement and supply chain strategy for a multi-billion-pound capital programme. Support supplier selection, contract negotiations, and the establishment of robust commercial management processes.
  • Independent Project Assurance: Providing independent assurance to a client on the delivery of a major capital project. Including regular health checks, risk assessments, and recommendations to improve project governance and delivery confidence.

Candidate Profile We Are Seeking a Candidate Who

  • Communicates confidently and delivers clear, impactful messages to a range of audiences to influence outcomes.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills and a strong commitment to coaching and developing others.
  • Possesses strong technical and analytical abilities, with the capacity to simplify complex issues and deliver practical client solutions.
  • Is passionate about capital project delivery and motivated to learn from colleagues and build collaborative relationships at all levels.
  • Has a solid academic background and relevant industry experience, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Is willing to travel nationally and internationally as required.
