EV Charging System Engineer

Responsibilities:

1. EV Charging Management Systems

  • Configure, integrate, and maintain EV charging backend systems.
  • Ensure reliable communication between chargers and backend platforms using OCPP , the globally dominant protocol for charger–management system communication.
  • Reference: OCPP is “the most widely adopted charging protocol globally” and enables communication between chargers and management systems.

2. Protocols & Interoperability (OCPP, OCPI)

  • Implement and troubleshoot OCPP for charger control, smart charging, meter values, and remote operations.
  • Implement OCPI for roaming, interoperability, and communication between CPOs and e‑Mobility Service Providers (eMSPs).
  • Reference: OCPI “allows communication between Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and e‑Mobility Service Providers (eMSPs).”
  • Reference: EV charging protocols enable communication between charging stations, backend systems, roaming hubs, and partner networks.

3. Smart Metering & Smart Charging

  • Integrate smart metering data into backend systems for billing, load management, and reporting.
  • Support smart charging functions such as load balancing, demand response, and energy optimization.
  • Reference: Charging protocols define how data is exchanged between chargers, backend systems, and the grid — including meter values and smart charging.

4. Payment Systems & Roaming Integration

  • Integrate payment gateways, billing engines, and roaming platforms.
  • Ensure seamless user authentication, tariff application, and transaction settlement.
  • Reference: OCPI supports roaming and interoperability between networks and service providers.

5. Cybersecurity

  • Implement secure communication channels for OCPP/OCPI (TLS, certificates, authentication).
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity best practices for EV charging networks, which are considered critical infrastructure.
  • Reference: EV charging protocols involve data exchange between multiple systems, requiring secure communication.

6. Testing, Validation & Troubleshooting

  • Conduct protocol‑level testing (OCPP/OCPI message flows).
  • Diagnose communication failures between chargers, backend systems, and roaming partners.
  • Validate firmware updates, charger onboarding, and backend integrations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, IT, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with EV charging management systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with OCPP and OCPI (mandatory).
  • Experience with smart metering , payment integration , roaming , and cybersecurity .
  • Familiarity with backend platforms (CPO systems, EMSP systems, roaming hubs).
  • Understanding of communication protocols, APIs, and cloud‑based systems.
