Merry Puppins is an award-winning, in-home pet care company serving Pittsburgh’s East End neighborhoods, including Highland Park, Morningside, Lawrenceville, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Regent Square, Aspinwall, O’Hara, and surrounding areas.

We provide trusted, professional care for dogs, cats, and small pets in their homes while their people are away.

We are seeking a dependable, experienced, and compassionate Evening & Weekend Pet Sitter to join our team.

This is not gig work.

• You must have hands-on experience with both dogs AND cats (professional or extensive personal experience)
• You must be comfortable administering medications
• This is a W-2 employee position (not independent contractor work)
• You must provide consistent availability for scheduling, but your actual schedule and hours will vary week to week based on client demand
• This role is primarily drop-in visits, not overnight stays
• We do not hire anyone under the age of 18

Some weeks may be busy, while others may be lighter. This role requires flexibility and comfort with a schedule that changes based on client needs.

If you are looking for pick-your-own-shift work or a fixed, predictable schedule, this is not the right fit.

Position Details

• Schedule: Evenings (approximately 5 PM – 10 PM) and weekends (morning, afternoon, and evening availability preferred)
• Hours: Variable week to week depending on client bookings (no guaranteed hours)
• Location: Client homes throughout Pittsburgh’s East End and nearby neighborhoods
• Type: Part-time, long-term

This role works well for someone who has daytime commitments and can reliably be available during evenings and weekends, even though the number of visits scheduled will change each week.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-home care for dogs, cats, and small animals
• Follow detailed visit instructions with precision
• Feed pets, refresh water, clean litter boxes, and provide enrichment
• Administer medications as needed (required skill)
• Safely handle dogs of various sizes, temperaments, and leash skills
• Handle light home-care tasks (mail, packages, tidying pet areas)
• Submit detailed visit notes and photos through our app
• Ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of every pet

Requirements

• Prior pet care experience REQUIRED (professional or extensive personal experience)
• Confident handling dogs and knowledgeable about cat care
• Comfortable administering medications
• Reliable, insured vehicle and valid driver’s license
• Live in or near Pittsburgh’s East End or have a short commute
• 18+ years old
• Ability to pass a background check
• Smartphone with data plan
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured instructions
• Willingness to work some holidays (holiday pay provided)
• Commitment to at least one year
