Excavator Operator – Sewer, Waterline & Downspout Installation

Job Summary

AK Water Works is hiring a skilled and reliable Excavator Operator to join our team. We’re a locally owned and operated plumbing and waterproofing company serving Northeastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating excavation equipment for residential and commercial projects — with a focus on digging and installing sewer lines, waterlines, and downspouts safely and accurately.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators and other heavy equipment to dig trenches and prepare sites for underground utility installation.
• Install sewer lines, waterlines, and downspout drainage systems according to specifications.
• Safely expose and repair existing utility lines when needed.
• Work closely with plumbers, waterproofing techs, and other crew members to complete projects efficiently.
• Perform basic equipment maintenance and daily inspections to ensure safe operation.
• Maintain a clean and organized job site while following all safety protocols.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding job progress and site conditions.

Requirements

• Proven experience operating an excavator (minimum 1–2 years preferred).
• Experience installing sewer and water lines is required.
• Must be able to read and follow basic site plans and grade elevations.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
• Must be able to pass a background check.

Job Type: Full-time

Projected Total Compensation: $25.00 - $38.00 per hour
