Opportunity Summary

RISE seeks an Exceptional Children (EC) / Special Education Certified Teacher. This person will work with RISE staff to ensure that all scholar learning needs are met, and that scholars are moving towards proficiency. The EC Teacher is responsible for ensuring that all Exceptional
Children make significant academic gains through both in-class and out-of-class support. With his/her team, the EC Teacher will help manage administrative/regulatory aspects of the EC program and serve as a small group academic teacher as well as a whole-class co-teacher in our inclusive classroom settings. The EC Teacher will report to the EC Coordinator.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Embody, advocate and operationalize the mission and vision of RISE.
  • Proactively build great relationships with scholars, parents, and staff.
  • Communicate regularly with scholars and parents about student progress.
  • Lead your classroom with high expectations for growth and learning.
  • Implement a research-based curriculum to meet or exceed academic standards.
  • Assume responsibility for the academic progress of scholars with a high sense of urgency and ownership towards data driven results.
  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with colleagues in an environment where listening, critical thought, respectful debate, and compromise is welcomed and essential.
  • Own your professional growth by participating eagerly in whole-staff professional development and working to master the expectations of our team.
  • Meet regularly with the EC Coordinator to grow professionally. Be hungry for feedback that will empower your learning and leadership.
  • Complete all lesson plans, progress reports, report cards, and administrative functions on time and in response to your supervisor’s recommendations.
  • Teach daily instructional lessons with high behavioral and academic expectations to students within caseload
  • Work closely with RISE teachers to differentiate curriculum, help create effective accommodations, and modify curriculum when appropriate
  • Utilize data collected through a myriad of sources to drive instruction and intervention
  • Manage paperwork related to caseload (e.g. IEPs, 504s, Child Study Team notes,
  • Records of Accommodations, IEP Progress Reports, etc.)

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required)
  • North Carolina Teaching Certification or Equivalent
  • Bilingual English/Spanish ability (preferred)
