The Manchester Business Association (MBA) is a 501c6 nonprofit Destination Marketing Organization dedicated to supporting a vibrant and thriving business community in Manchester, Vermont. The organization works collaboratively to promote the town and its businesses through strategic marketing, events, and advocacy efforts that enhance visitation and economic vitality.
JOB SUMMARY
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief administrative and operational leader of the Manchester Business Association (MBA) and is responsible for advancing its mission, programs, and strategic goals. This is a full-time, exempt position requiring independent judgment, leadership, and initiative.
The ED acts as a key ambassador for the MBA, representing the interests of local member businesses while fostering partnerships and driving initiatives that support the economic health and visibility of the Manchester community and surrounding area.
The role is responsible for the overall management of the organization, including membership development, financial oversight, program execution, communications, personnel and stakeholder engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the execution of MBA’s mission, goals, and strategic initiatives
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors, MBA members, Town of Manchester and the broader community.
- Provide regular updates and strategic insights to the Board of Directors.
Membership Development & Engagement
- Develop and implement membership recruitment and retention strategies.
- Maintain accurate membership records and reporting.\Serve as a resource and advocate for local businesses.
Financial Management
- Develop and present the annual operating budget for Board approval.
- Work closely with the Treasurer to manage financial accounts and reporting.
- Monitor financial performance against budget and provide regular updates to the Board of Directors.
Programs, Events & Community Engagement
- Plan and execute: Monthly Board meetings, Annual membership meeting, and community events and initiatives in conjunction with the Events Manager.
- Coordinate logistics, communications, and follow-up for all programs.
- Record and maintain organizational records.
Marketing & Communications
- Oversee website and social media presence in collaboration with contracted vendors.
- Manage content development including but not limited to; Monthly newsletters, Bi-weekly member newsletters, blog and social media content, and event materials as needed.
- Promote Manchester as a premier travel destination while maintaining a community-focused approach.
Visitor Center Operations
- Oversee operations at the Manchester Visitor Center.
- Maintain and update informational materials and member collateral.
- Ensure the Visitor Center serves as a welcoming and informative public resource.
Partnerships & Advocacy
- Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and state organizations.
- Represent the MBA in public forums, meetings, and community discussions.
- Advocate for policies and initiatives that support local businesses and community vitality.
Grants & Compliance
- Research and apply for grants to support organizational initiatives as applicable.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Staff & Volunteer Management
- Supervise 1 FT Events Manager and 1 or 2 PT Visitor Center staff members.
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise additional staff, interns, and volunteers as needed.
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Sales and marketing experience required.
- Development experience soliciting sponsorships, grants, and public support desired
- Knowledge of the Manchester area and local business community preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of Products, Google Analytics, and social media platforms
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This role operates in a hybrid environment, including office work at the Manchester Visitor Center and remote work. The position may require light travel and participation in community events.
EXEMPT STATUS
- This is a full-time, exempt position under applicable wage and hour laws. The role requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment in managing organizational operations and strategic initiatives.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
