Executive Director – Community Policy & Engagement (Remote)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead a high-profile statewide initiative focused on social justice, policy

development, and community engagement. The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, oversee day-to-day operations,

and ensure the successful completion of program deliverables, including a comprehensive final report.

This position is a remote, full-time role with flexible scheduling. Occasional evening/weekend hours and travel within New York

State will be required for community hearings, forums, and stakeholder meetings.

Key Responsibilities

● Provide strategic leadership and manage overall program operations.

● Develop and implement process plans, policies, and workflows to ensure timely deliverables.

● Coordinate and synthesize input from public hearings, experts, and stakeholders into actionable findings.

● Facilitate remote and in-person community engagement sessions across New York State.

● Oversee staff recruitment, onboarding, and performance, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and reporting

standards.

● Collaborate with historians, legal experts, policy advisors, and researchers to ensure comprehensive documentation.

● Deliver clear, accurate, and timely reporting to stakeholders, including drafting and editing final recommendations.

● Manage program budgets, logistics, and administrative requirements.

Qualifications

● Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in social justice, public policy, or community-based initiatives.

● At least 3 years in an executive or senior management role.

● Graduate degree in law, public administration, social sciences, or a related field (JD, MPA, MS, PhD, etc.)

● Demonstrated success in community engagement and consensus-building.

● Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.

● Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on management.

Desired Skills

● Expertise in reparative justice, racial equity, or policy reform.

● Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and consultants.

● Advanced writing, editing, and presentation skills (including data visualization).

● Public speaking and facilitation experience.

● Flexible availability (evenings/weekends when needed) and willingness to travel across New York State.

Work Environment & Compensation

● Remote position with travel required for statewide engagement.

● Competitive hourly rate based on experience and qualifications.

● Contract term: 12 months, with potential renewal.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $70.00 - $80.00 per hour
