Macon County Economic Development (MCED), located in Macon, Missouri, is seeking an Executive Director to lead a public-private economic development organization for the Macon County Region. MCED’s mission is to cultivate a healthy economic environment by connecting resources for businesses and the citizens of Macon County. We do this through business retention, expansion and attraction in the industries of education, healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, and technology. The Executive Director will run a full-service economic development organization. This leader must be collaborative, innovative, and motivated to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This candidate must also credibly communicate economic development priorities, while building and sustaining support from the private and public sectors in the region. This position requires willingness to travel and includes duties as assigned from time to time

Job Classification: Exempt, Full-time

Base Salary: Commensurate with Experience

Board of Directors Role: The Executive Director reports to the MCED Board of Directors.

Major Duties:

  • Perform basic economic development functions such as business retention and expansion, business attraction, and workforce development. Initial areas of focus will include housing, workforce development, and administration of the landfill fee loan and grant program.
  • Implement existing economic development strategic plan.
  • Work with Board of Directors to increase investors in the organization.
  • Collaborate with community leaders and other economic development related entities.
  • Develop agendas for all meetings.
  • Work with local, regional, and statewide partners.
  • Maintain all MCED marketing materials.
  • Willingness to obtain economic development certifications.
  • Supervisory responsibilities.
  • All other tasks as assigned by the MCED Board of Directors.

Residential Requirement: Residency in Macon County within 6 months.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Proven record of relationship building and the ability to navigate and understand the complexities of working with local and state elected/appointed officials.
  • Ability to gather data, analyze, evaluate, and disseminate in a succinct and effective manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative and strategic-thinking abilities, with strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects.
  • Professional attitude and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Prefer five-seven years of experience in economic development or related field.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
