EXPAT Underground Maintenance Engineer

Job Outline:

To supervise the safe repair and maintenance of CAT underground equipment, both on the surface and in the underground operation. To effectively manage the assembly, start up, operation and product support of Caterpillar and other makes of underground equipment sold by the group. Develop local engineers, by training, mentoring and hands on practical demonstration.

Main Tasks and Duties:

• Develop world class maintenance practices for underground equipment, based on previous practical experience.
• Carry out “hands on” technical analysis, troubleshooting and repairs, on site and in the underground mine, always sharing working methods developed through experience, with local staff to develop their skills.
• Provide technical assistance for underground product to other sites running similar equipment in other locations, by phone, email or in person.
• Provide hands on technical training and mentoring of local staff to develop their skills and therefore increase the number of staff capable of working on this specialized equipment and field.
• Ensure optimum utilization of labor, using planned repair times from experience, including subcontract labor.
• Throughout the assembly phase, liaise with Mantrac sales representatives, local contractors, staff and customers staff and management.
• Analyze all system data as required and investigate the reason for events. Take corrective action if required.
• Manage the health of the equipment and assess any problems using available resource or contacting suppliers.
• Ensure daily inspections are carried out on all equipment as required by the manufacturer or industry standard.
• Ensure load data is monitored and recorded for analysis and reporting, weekly & monthly.
• Oversee site supply chain issues to ensure parts & lubricant requirements are met.
• Provide a monthly report covering all work carried out, key areas of opportunity and key issues for development or continuous improvement.
• Manage site equipment warranty issues so that contractual arrangements are adhered to and assist the Service Department Management in achieving fair and reasonable warranty cost settlements.
• Identify staff training needs and implement a plan to meet those needs.
• Ensure all site mandatory requirements are met e.g., safety and site inductions.
• Liaise with customer representatives to ensure prompt payment for services received.

Personal Specifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with practical Underground Mining experience is preferred.
• At least 10 years’ experience of repairing and maintaining underground haul & load mining equipment (CAT equipment would be preferred)
• Hands on troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of systems on the above machines, CAT ET, SIS.
• Knowledge of other CAT systems such as HIS, VIMS and SOS interpretation
• All systems on Caterpillar R2900G, R1700K, AD63, AD55, AD30, AD45 and other equipment, such as underground drills, utility machines.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
• Willingness to relocate to Egypt.
