Job Description – Expense Management Senior AnalystRole Summary

The Expense Management Senior Analyst will serve as a strategic partner in ensuring financial discipline, cost transparency, and operational efficiency across the organization. Unlike traditional finance roles focused on month-end close or standard reporting, this role emphasizes real-time expense oversight, policy enforcement, and cost optimization. The incumbent will act as a key challenger to spending practices, delivering actionable insights that enhance profitability and ensure resources are used effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Expense Oversight & Analysis
  • Monitor, track, and analyze operating expenses across departments to identify cost drivers, inefficiencies, and emerging trends.
  • Perform detailed variance and root-cause analyses to provide visibility on overspending or underutilization.
  • Policy Adherence & Governance
  • Enforce compliance with corporate expense policies, flagging exceptions for review and remediation.
  • Partner with compliance, procurement, and HR to ensure expense policies remain relevant, practical, and risk-mitigating.
  • Cost Optimization & Business Partnering
  • Conduct deep dives into high-spend categories to identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency gains.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to challenge spending patterns, fostering a culture of cost accountability.
  • Support cross-functional cost-saving initiatives through financial modeling, benchmarking, and scenario analysis.
  • Reporting & Insights
  • Develop and deliver clear, action-oriented expense reports and dashboards for senior leadership.
  • Highlight key risks, opportunities, and recommendations to drive informed decision-making.
  • Process Improvement & Enablement
  • Partner with procurement and operations teams to enhance cost transparency, vendor management, and spend visibility.
  • Drive automation, digitization, and continuous improvement of expense monitoring tools and workflows.
  • Identify and implement best practices to streamline expense tracking and oversight.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in expense management, FP&A, cost analysis, or a related finance role.
  • Proven track record in cost optimization, spend governance, or expense oversight within a complex organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to challenge assumptions constructively.
  • Proficiency in financial systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workday, or similar) and advanced Excel / data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Exceptional communication skills with experience preparing reports and presenting insights to senior leadership.
  • Knowledge of procurement practices and vendor management is a strong plus.
