Experience Designer I- hybrid

Are you passionate about creating meaningful digital experiences that improve lives? At UPMC Health Plan, our Experience Designers are at the forefront of transforming how people interact with healthcare. From shaping big-picture strategy to refining the details of UX/UI, you’ll help design solutions that make health insurance easier to understand and navigate.

As an Experience Designer, you’ll be a key problem-solver—digging into complex challenges, uncovering insights, and crafting intuitive experiences that support our members throughout their healthcare journey. You’ll collaborate closely with researchers, product managers, developers, and business leaders in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment.

This is a hybrid role based in Pittsburgh, PA, offering the flexibility to work both remotely and onsite, with a weekly in-office commitment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design with purpose: Follow a clear, human-centered design process to create thoughtful, user-focused solutions.

  • Discover and empathize: Participate in research and workshops to understand user needs and stakeholder goals.

  • Translate insights into impact: Synthesize research findings and communicate them clearly to guide product decisions.

  • Shape experiences: Apply design principles to digital and service touchpoints that improve member engagement and satisfaction.

  • Collaborate across teams: Work in agile, cross-functional teams to bring ideas to life and continuously improve our products.

  • Scale your thinking: Move fluidly between strategy and execution—delivering everything from high-level concepts to detailed wireframes and specifications.

  • Innovate boldly: Join ideation sessions and innovation sprints to explore new possibilities and push boundaries.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (or comparable degree and/or experience).
  • Experience in research, product design, service design, experience strategy, product development or related role.
  • Related educational experience including internship/externship will be considered.
  • Proficiency with or design tools.
  • Experience in the health care or insurance industries a plus.
  • Good visual, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with scrum/agile software development approach preferred.
