Position Overview

Experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer – Full-Time, In-Person Role in Northern Virginia

Seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer to lead system layouts, hydraulic calculations, and BIM coordination for commercial, residential, and mixed-use projects. Full-time, in-person role with competitive pay and benefits, serving DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and layout fire protection systems including wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, and fire pump configurations
  • Prepare detailed shop and installation drawings in compliance with NFPA codes and local standards
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and generate material lists
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field teams to ensure seamless coordination
  • Review architectural and MEP drawings to develop compliant system designs
  • Participate in coordination meetings and contribute to 3D model integration (Navisworks, Revit, etc.)
  • Conduct field surveys to validate design feasibility
  • Support permit and submittal processes, including preparation of submittal packages
  • Assist field personnel with design-related installation questions
  • Prepare final close-out documentation following acceptance testing

Qualifications

Required:

  • NICET Level II strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in fire sprinkler design
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 13, 14, 20, and related codes
  • Ability to read and interpret construction and engineering documents
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills

· Experience with BIM coordination, including Navisworks, Revit, and clash detection workflows

· Familiarity with 3D modeling platforms and integration of fire protection systems into coordinated building models

· Detail oriented, strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are a must
