Assist in developing innovative tooling and equipment that power MacLean-Fogg’s Engineered Plastic Company. This role focuses on creating high-performance tooling that enhances production efficiency, product quality, and safety in our plastic molding operations.

Job Details

  • Position Type: Full-Time/Salaried (Exempt)

  • Pay Range: Competitive – Discussed during interview

  • Work Location: Onsite – Menomonee Falls, WI 53051

  • Travel: Up to 10%

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing injection molds, fixtures, and assembly tools to support plastic manufacturing operations.

  • Review part designs and customer requirements to determine tooling concepts, materials, and processing needs.

  • Use 3D CAD software to create accurate, detailed models and drawings for mold and tool fabrication.

  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure mold performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

  • Estimate tooling costs, material requirements, and project timelines for new and modified tools.

  • Lead efforts to improve tooling design for cycle time reduction, part quality, and mold longevity.

  • Support automation initiatives to modernize molding and assembly processes.

  • Oversee tooling suppliers, quotes, and procurement to ensure cost-effective, high-quality deliverables.

  • Evaluate and implement material and design improvements to enhance tool performance and reduce maintenance.

Skills/Competencies

  • 3D Modeling and CAD Design (SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent)

  • Injection Mold Design and Fabrication

  • Plastic Material Knowledge (thermoplastics, resins, and composites)

  • Manufacturing Process Engineering

  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Problem Solving and Root Cause Analysis

  • Design for Manufacturability and Moldability (DFM/DFMold)

  • Automation and Tooling Integration

  • Project Management and Collaboration

Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or related field

  • 10+ years of experience in tooling or mold design for plastic injection molding operations

  • Proficiency in CAD modeling and technical drawing for mold and tool fabrication

  • Strong understanding of mold construction, cooling design, gating, and ejection systems

  • Proven success leading tooling projects from concept through validation and production launch
