Job Summary
The Fabric Manager oversees all fabric development, sourcing, and production processes to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery. This role serves as the key link between design, production, and vendors, managing fabric libraries, testing, approvals, and sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end fabric development from concept to bulk production.
- Source and negotiate with mills, suppliers, and vendors for pricing, lead times, and quality.
- Approve lab dips, strike-offs, and handlooms to ensure alignment with design intent.
- Maintain the seasonal fabric library and database, ensuring accurate technical and cost information.
- Oversee fabric testing for performance, colorfastness, shrinkage, and compliance standards.
- Collaborate with design and product development teams to select appropriate fabrics based on aesthetics, function, and cost.
- Monitor production schedules to prevent fabric delays and shortages.
- Implement sustainability and traceability standards across the fabric sourcing process.
- Stay updated on fabric trends, innovations, and market developments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Fashion Design, Merchandising, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in fabric sourcing, development, or textile production (preferably in apparel or home textiles).
- Strong understanding of textile construction, weaving, knitting, dyeing, and finishing.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PLM systems, and ERP software.
- Knowledge of sustainability standards (e.g., GOTS, OEKO-TEX, BCI) is a plus.
